Casino Game Protection by Steve Forte: This is a very large book written for casino staff to "protect" their games from professional players. It's a great resource for both casino staff and players, but it deals with older techniques. The sections on roulette strategies are mainly about visual ballistics, bias analysis and roulette computers. Only the very basics are explained. Our websites provide a much more extensive explanation.

The Romeo Project: This is a book that explains one group's efforts to develop a roulette computer device. The algorithm they present is almost precisely the same as the typical roulette computer algorithm explained on roulette-computers.com. Every roulette computer uses much the same algorithm, with the exception of our Uber and Hybrid models (see www.roulette-computers.com and www.hybridroulettecomputer.com)

Don Young's Infallible System: A high profile system that will only ever work if the wheel is heavily biased.

So most casinos hire professional constants which teach casino staff how to detect and deal with professional players. But still it's very easy for careful players to avoid detection.

Below are some of the principles that make roulette predictable. It's about the extent of information most roulette dealers know. Casino surveillance staff have a much better knowledge, although still it is much harder for them to detect professional players, than it is for players to avoid detection.

The winning number is determined by many physical variables such as wheel ball and speed. And because there are so many variables, spins can appear totally random. However, parts of roulette spins are clearly predictable. And when parts are predictable, the results are also predictable.

You don't need to predict winning numbers with perfect accuracy. The casino's house edge is only -2.7%. So to turn the odds in your favor, you only need slight accuracy. In most cases you achieve an edge around +5 to +10%, which is more than double the casino's normal edge over players.

There are many parts of spins that are predictable. Below are some simple examples.

1. Dominant Diamonds

The ball will almost always hit specific diamonds more than others. This is called a “dominant diamond”, and it happens on almost every wheel. You can easily check it on your casino’s wheels by creating a small chart. Regardless of the ball release speed, there will still be a dominant diamond. They are usually caused by minor imperfections in the ball track, and are almost impossible for casinos to prevent even on new wheels.

2. Predictable Ball Bounce

The ball bounce is never completely random. If you know where it will first hit the pockets, you have a reasonable idea of where it will land. You don’t need to be right every time. You only need to have slight accuracy to have an edge. The chart here displays typical results when observing how far the ball bounces. Again this is something you can easily check on your casino’s wheels.

There's a lot more to it, and wheel designers are aware of it. But they don't want to casinos to know too much about it because if gaming regulators better understand spins aren't random, then roulette could be removed as a game from casinos. It's a complicated situation but the end result is casinos only have a vague understanding of the latest techniques to win roulette.

Most players are oblivious to what does and doesn't work, and why. So roulette will probably always be a profitable game for casinos.

Almost every system loses because it doesn't increase the accuracy of predictions. Basically each type of bet has a probability of winning, and a payout. And the payout is always unfair. For example, the European wheel has 37 pockets. So if your predictions have "random accuracy", a bet on a single number has a 1 in 37 chance of winning. But the payout is only 35-1. So even when you win, you're paid an unfair amount. The unfair payout is called the "house edge".

Typical systems attempt to compensate with completely ineffective approaches. One example is progression betting. This is where you increase bet size after losses. But this just increases the amount you risk. You could either get lucky and win, or lose even more.

The only way to overcome the unfair payouts is by increasing your chance of winning. And this is done by predicting where the ball will land. This can only be done by using the only science that determines why the ball lands where it does - physics.

It may seem impossible because the ball seems to bounce unpredictably. But keep in mind the house edge is only small. So you need only slight accuracy to overcome it, and beat roulette consistently. In fact it's nearly impossible to design a roulette wheel with completely unpredictable spins.
